Statements On Minnesota Protests
This is a collection of statements put out in January 2026 by Jewish Social Justice Roundtable affiliates. This list will be updated frequently as new statements become public.
Avodah states, “Clergy members have been arrested while singing, “Everybody’s got a right to live.” The commandment to welcome and embrace the stranger appears 36 times in the Torah. It is a crucial teaching of our tradition. Today, we’re praying with our feet.”
Bend the Arc says, “If we do not intervene now, Minneapolis is only the beginning.”
In a cross-denominational statement, Central Conference of American Rabbis, Rabbinical Assembly,Reconstructing Judaism, and Union for Reform Judaism states, “Adding our voices to millions of others across the United States, leaders of the Reform, Conservative/Masorti, and Reconstructionist Movements of Judaism condemn, in the strongest terms, the violence with which the Department of Homeland Security is enforcing American immigration law… .”
HIAS says, “Our communities must be protected from harm.”
Ikar states, “We stand with the people of Minnesota, faith leaders, labor, immigrant justice advocates, and community partners to call for an end to ICE’s violence everywhere!”
Jewish Alliance for Law and Social Action (JALSA) urges, "We must stand up for our neighbors in Minnesota. We must stand up for our neighbors in our immigrant communities in Massachusetts and across the country. And we must stand up for our democracy!"
Jewish Community Action says “As ICE continues to terrorize our neighbors, we must act with the morality clarity this moment demands.As Jews, we will not watch what is happening in silence. We can’t afford to. We know what becomes at risk when people look away.”
Jewish Council for Public Affairs states, “Our Jewish values demand we speak with moral clarity: we know where unchecked power leads, and that true safety can never come through fear, militarization, or violence.”
JFREJ says, “May both their (Renee Good and Alex Pretti) memories be a blessing. May their courage and goodness and divine light ignite a fire in all of us so strong that it melts ICE to the ground recites the Mourner’s Kaddish
Kirva states, “ In moments like these, marked by grief, rage, and fear, we are called to come together to resist injustice and refuse the normalization of state violence.”
National Council of Jewish Women says, “Like the courageous Minnesotans demonstrating peacefully, we call upon the rest of the country to speak up. Contact your Members of Congress immediately. Do not look away.”
Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association states, “(We) condemn the state violence and civil liberty violations escalating there at an alarming scale.”
Religious Action Center says, “Today’s horrific and tragic killing of another protester makes clear, yet again, why secure, just, and compassionate immigration policy must be achieved through sound policy decisions, not the infusion of thousands of ICE agents into communities nationwide.”
The Workers Circle says, “We can overcome this horror if we stand up together. We are at a tipping point."
T’ruah states, “Jewish clergy are refusing to stand idly by while families are torn apart by racist, violent ICE raids.”
